  1. This is possibly the most inaccurate retelling of the Mitford sisters imaginable. I haven’t even listened to the whole episode before feeling compelled to write. Fact after fact is wrong. Jessica Mitford was 19 when she ran away with Esmond Romilly, not 14; Churchill was not complaisant about Hitler in the 1930s, he was one of the few warning voices in British politics (see The Gathering Storm, book and movies); Romilly did not fight for the US in the American Air Force — when war started in England he joined The Royal Canadian Airforce as he was already in North America and he died in November 30, 1941, a week before the US even entered the war. Diana Mitford was sentenced to Holloway, a Dickensian womens prison in London and Mosley was in the mens prison. After a year or two, they were imprisoned together in a cottage on the prison grounds — these were not posh accommodations. Diana had a newborn baby that she did not bring with her to prison because it would be not be safe. Her sister Pam took care of the two boys during the War. The Mosleys were only released after 3.5 years because Mosley was so ill that authorities were afraid he would die and become a martyr. Jessica bought Inch Kenneth because she loved the island and her sisters had no objection. They were all financially secure and did not want it — I even think Nancy may have given her share to Decca. And, Susan was a nickname between Nancy and Decca only. “Hon” was a derivative of hen because of the hens they raised and eggs they sold for money. Decca refused all contact with Diana but Diana did not hate her sister. There are other errors but I will stop. If you are going to have a guest, please make sure the facts being presented are correct. This is frustrating as I enjoy listening to podcasts to learn things — not be given a confusing, misinformed jumble.

    1. you have discovered the key to the dork forest. a. it’s enthusiasm that GETS to be corrected by other dorks and b. you got to write a screed telling me that he was wrong. It also gets hundreds of people to look up more (and corrected) facts and email them to me.!! So.. welcome. And thank you for all the corrections!!
