SICK LIT. SAD LIT. Jen O’Donnell will be prepared – Ep. 496

Jen O’Donnell (@jenodd @jenodd1 IG) wants to cry it out. She learned how with YA “sick lit” and makes the case that it’s not to be vilified quite so much. I agree. Not my dorkdom but this is still great. Enjoy.

  1. Hey Jackie – Finally got to listen to this episode, which was great fun. It prompted a few thoughts, to wit: 1) So excited you’re writing a romance novel!; will you publish it under your own name?; 2) Please come out of the romance-reader closet and join us with pride in Goodreads Romancelandia; 3) Have you read Dorothy Dunnett’s Lymond Chronicles books? As Kaila Hale-Stern wrote at TheMarySue.com, “They will radically change you at a molecular level.” Globe-spanning 16th century political intrigue, swashbuckling (parkour with swords on a castle roof!), an overarching mortal-enemies (she really, really, really wants him dead)-to-lovers romance – one of the few series where I was actually sad at the end because the characters were so wonderful. ‘The Game of Kings’ is the first; and 4) If you haven’t already listened to it, I highly recommend the Heaving Bosoms podcast — those ladies are hilarious about Highland Times, England Times, Werves, and more. Eagerly awaiting your novel’s publication! mampdx
